We’re Back…..sort of….

This post will be very short and will only have a few photos.

At this point our engines are still in a shop in north Toronto getting repaired. The best case scenario at this point is that we will be in the water the first week of July. Of course this is a moving target and, as we all know, plans are constantly changing.

I hope to have better news in the next few weeks but for now here is what I did get done while the engines are out.

Donald and I installed plywood on the wall that separates the engine room from the living area.

We needed to remove the various filters and battery chargers and hoses and thingys first, install a small section of plywood, and then reinstall the doohickeys. I hate to get all technical on you but it’s how I roll. I will not dumb this down for you.

Scraping off the very worn insulation(?) was a pain.

I was able to put a coat of primer on the plywood before we left for the day. Before anyone asks the paint is an industrial brand that can handle higher temperatures.

I made a few more trips up on my own over the next few months to paint the engine room. About 80% of the time was spent cleaning. I tried degreasers but found the best option was good ol’ Acetone. It cut through the grease easily. The problem was, and still is, there was a lot of grease and so many little nooks and crannies for the grease to hide.

I used a fan to move the air around.

And yes … I wore a mask.

I managed to get 3 good coats of Bilgekote on the areas that I won’t be able to reach once the engines and generator are back in.

This is where the generator sits. I will be making one more trip up in the next few weeks to finish this area off.

That is all I have for now. Like I said … our target date is the first week of July. Wish us luck.
